THE DRESS | Not Just Another Fashion Story

.

It was one of those garments you wore when you only wanted one person to notice. When you find this kind of dress, it whispers to you, leaving your hairs on end. It is a perfect description of who you are and who you believe yourself to be.

When you put on a dress like this, you can walk over water. You can stand as tall as those shiny buildings and skyscrapers you find in a big city, where no one really stands out until they've unleashed some sort of worthy vendetta against a society of sleepwalkers. I was a sleep walker — until I put on The Dress.

It was 4 am. The sun wouldn't rise for another hour and a half. But as a sleep walker, you don't see much anyway. The air in the trees was as cool as it was every morning around this time.

I didn't know how far I would get before I awakened. All I knew was that I wanted to be somewhere, anywhere, wearing The Dress.

It was 5 am. Another half hour to go, and I would be free.

I could hear voices. There were others awakening, and I felt a pull to join them — I had to.

5.30. It happened.

The sun was rising on my back. I opened my eyes. I haven't closed them since.

A lifetime passed in front of me. My daughters and granddaughters, and then, their daughters and granddaughters — still wearing The Dress.

Loved clothes last.
